About the event

The seminar in Russian, “What is the microbiome, and why does it matter so much for our health?” is intended primarily for the Ukrainian and Russian community in Slovakia, but is open to anyone who is interested. The event will take place on January 11, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the “Drak and Finch” wine bar in Bratislava.

Abstract:

Modern science shows that the human body is not just made of human cells, but also of trillions of microorganisms that live inside us. Together, they form the microbiome — a complex ecosystem that plays a key role in digestion, immunity, metabolism, and even brain function.

In this lecture, we will explore how the microbiome communicates with the brain through the gut–brain axis, why it is often called our “second brain,” and how microbial balance supports physical and mental health. We will also discuss what happens when this balance is disrupted (dysbiosis) and how diet, lifestyle, and modern medical therapies can influence the microbiome.

This lecture is designed for a general audience and combines clear explanations, real scientific discoveries, and practical insights into how caring for our microbiome can improve our health.
