Students from the Secondary Pedagogical School Visited the Laboratory of Genomics and Bioinformatics

The Laboratory of Genomics and Bioinformatics at the Science Park of Comenius University in Bratislava welcomed 31 second-year students from the Secondary Pedagogical School, Bullova 2, Bratislava (October 19, 2026).
They were accompanied by teacher Tomáš Prachár, a graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Comenius University, and the school’s principal.
Thanks to an event organized under the FORGENOM II project, the students gained insight into the environment of a scientific institution and met its researchers.
The visit was part of a new school subject, Practical Biology. Its aim is to introduce students to real-world research in Slovakia and enable them to learn about institutions operating in the field of research and biological practice.
The Commenius University Science Park was the first institution they visited as part of this course.
The program was opened by Jakub Styk with a lecture titled “When DNA Reveals More Than We Expected.” This was followed by a Q&A session and a joint discussion.
After the presentation, the students split into two groups and took turns going on a tour of the laboratory, which included discussions with researchers and refreshments. They explored the laboratory setting and spoke with people who dedicate themselves to research every day.
The meeting successfully connected classroom biology teaching with research practice and fostered dialogue between scientists and young people. We thank the students and their teachers for the visit and look forward to future joint activities.
