EMBL & ELIXIR Opportunities for Researchers

As part of the FORGENOM Annual Workshop 2026, we organized a dedicated session titled “EMBL & ELIXIR Opportunities for Researchers.” The event took place at Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava and brought together students, early-career researchers, and members of the life-science community interested in European research infrastructures and collaboration opportunities.

The session introduced two key pillars of the European life-science research ecosystem, EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory) and ELIXIR, the European infrastructure for biological data. Participants gained insight into how these infrastructures support cutting-edge research through shared resources, training programs, and international collaboration networks.

Speakers presented the activities coordinated by Comenius University in Bratislava within these initiatives and highlighted opportunities available to researchers in Slovakia, including access to scientific infrastructure, training courses, fellowships, and collaborative research platforms in genomics, bioinformatics, and related disciplines.

The event aimed to help young researchers better understand how European research infrastructures operate and how they can benefit from participating in international scientific networks and training opportunities.

To further support participants and other interested researchers, we have also made available the presentations delivered during this session, which provide additional information about EMBL, ELIXIR, and related research opportunities.

We would like to thank all speakers and participants for their engagement and valuable contributions to the discussion. Events like this play an important role in connecting local research communities with European research infrastructures and opening new opportunities for collaboration, training, and career development.

We look forward to continuing similar activities within the FORGENOM project and strengthening the links between researchers in Slovakia and the broader European life-science research ecosystem.
