Bratislava, [30 May 2025] – A new office is being established at the Science Park of Comenius University in Bratislava, aimed at connecting academic research, innovative companies, and the public in the fields of bioinformatics, genetics, and biomedicine – the FORGENOM Open Office. This initiative emerges as an outcome of the international project FORGENOM II and responds to the growing need to make scientific careers more attractive to young researchers in Slovakia.

The FORGENOM Open Office will serve as an open space for the general public, students, researchers, and professionals. It will regularly host open days, science cafés, presentations by successful researchers, discussions on current science topics, and career events designed to connect students with biomedical and bioinformatics companies and start-ups.

Special emphasis will be placed on increasing the visibility of women in science by sharing inspiring stories of female scientists. To boost interest in PhD studies and research in areas such as bioinformatics, genomics, and proteomics, activities will be carried out in collaboration with experts from the University of Milano-Bicocca (UNIMIB) and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

The project also includes a public communication campaign to raise interest in science and strengthen trust in its benefits. The FORGENOM Open Office also addresses the need for clear communication of current scientific findings in biomedicine and personalized medicine. These fields are increasingly important for future healthcare – for example, through the development of non-invasive diagnostic tests and targeted treatments. The goal is to support informed public decision-making and foster an environment of open dialogue between science and society.

The strategic goal of the FORGENOM II project (Fostering Excellence in Genomics and Proteomics Research at Comenius University in Bratislava) is to improve access to excellence at the Comenius University in Bratislava and enhance the research profile of the institution and its staff in genomics, bioinformatics, and proteomics. This will be achieved through targeted collaboration, mentoring, and educational activities with leading international research institutions in these fields – the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the University of Milano-Bicocca (UNIMIB).
